Artist Statement

My paintings primarily explore themes from the world I experience. Currently, "the hats we wear" is exploring social status, cultural identity and expectations, as well as concepts such as "liberty" and "justice". Each painting integrates my personal journey of thoughts and feelings.

My goal is to spark the viewer to critically think about the message within the painting. My subjects are people I see in the world around me. Their struggles, triumphs and realities are timeless and relatable in someway to everyone. The combination of real world concepts with a touch of humor is how we must approach life if we are to succeed and so I feel it is an important aspect in my work.

I work in oils and my technique is primarily classical with a contemporary feel. I photograph all of my subjects encouraging them to add their own "flare" to the process. My process is highly intuitive, as symbols and embellishments can make their way into the final piece at any time during the painting process, making each piece a journey.

I continue to explore new ways to express my ideas in a clear and concise manner. Connecting with others through art is an ongoing passion that drives me to explore and share the experiences I have.
