Artist Statement: The storied life of the commuter fading into the past. The traveler that committed regularly to the same steps, the same ride day after day. Days became weeks became months became years. The ritual was refined and set – habit guided as the commuter shifted to autopilot and the mind ran free in wanderlust. There were pauses in the journey, moments of waiting, unanimated, for the train to stop, for the doors to open, for the climb of the same steps to sit in the same familiar seat day after day after day. Unmoving, unblinking, stopped in place and waiting while pleading in one’s mind to run, to escape, to be free. The world has changed, and the commute is slowly fading into the past as a receding memory of what once was.
