Outreach Art Education
Water Street Studios brings arts-based education opportunities on-site to schools and housing developments to remove all barriers to participation.
According to the National Institute of Health, art literacy can play a vital role in the development of young people, especially in grades K-8, including fine motor skill development, exploring creativity and cultural awareness, improvement in concentration and academic performance, visual learning, problem-solving, decision-making, perseverance, collaboration, and accountability. It also supports student wellness by decreasing stress and improving social-emotional skills by focusing on self-expression while also collaborating and communicating with other students.
In 2024, Water Street Studios facilitated free art education at 5 locations throughout
The Fox Valley.
This programming benefited approximately 75 individuals monthly.
Participants ranged from age
six to senior citizens.

"Mercy Housing is grateful for this opportunity for residents to share their hopes and dreams through art. This form of self-expression allows them to take the time to explore those feelings and share them with the community in a creative way while experimenting with unique mediums. For the children, this is an opportunity to navigate thoughts and emotions as well as develop fine motor skills, foster creativity, and build self-esteem. Participation in the Community Gallery gives everyone a sense of belonging and has created a bridge to relationships being formed."
